Black Elk was a Sioux Medicine Man/Holy Man. He chronicled much of his tribal beliefs in a book called Black Elk Speaks by John Neihardt. His earliest vision was when he was a boy and it stuck with him througout his life. A vision of a red staff planted into ground that sprouts into a young tree. He speaks of two roads, a black one that runs east and west and a red one that runs north and south. All contained in a hoop. I chose to make the hoop into a dream catcher. It also forms a greek cross shape.
